I just received my first order today of the maternity bras (Currently nursing a 12 month old and previously nurses till 17 months) and I am so disappointed. I only gave it one star because I had to put something to submit. I’m a fairly average sized woman with a postpartum/nursing body (36D 10-12 dress) and these are very uncomfortable. The most unfortunate design flaw is the rigid vertical bone underneath the arm pit. It digs into your skin on both ends and the bone itself pushes inward into your ribs. The support mechanism inside the bra ends up strangling your breast like a “Borat” style speedo. The edge of the straps are abrasive and though I’ve never had issue with straps digging before by shoulders were aching after wearing this for five minutes. I will definitely be returning.
I followed the directions in the details and sized down. I went down one cup size (from 34DDD to 34DDand it fit really well. I think two cup sizes would still have maybe fit but not left room for leak pads. About the boning: I think the problem is it’s not stiff enough to keep the fabric from scrunching. This caused the bottom edge to dig into my side and was uncomfortable. I think it’s unnecessary honestly and will probably cut it out. I also think if it didn’t extend all the way to the bottom of the band it might not be as much of a problem. But even as a DDD I don’t really need the boning to help keep everything in place. Still glad I ordered this to have a real bra when needed (as opposed to the bralettes) and so thankful to have found a bra in my size that fits!
I am extremely impressed with the support and comfort that this bra offers! The support is 100% comparable to a wire bra, but the comfort level is 100% more comfortable than a wire bra. I am larger in size (34DDD) so it’s extremely hard to find a combination of comfort and support. This bra has it. The only reasons why it’s not the one for me is because #1 The two tone detail on the front is so cute, but it shows through thinner clothing. I need a bra that will not show lines through any of my clothing. #2 Even though it fit beautifully, after moving around a bit, bending over, etc, one of my breasts would slip out just enough to show spillage through the shirt. I believe I was wearing the right size, I am thinking it’s just the way the style is designed. BUT that being said, I love the look, the style makes me feel sexy, and as stated before the support and comfort is unbelievable.
I was all excited because I love lively bras - especially the no wires, but these aren’t truly “no worries.” There is wire on the side of these really dig in when I wear it. I can’t do it for more than a day. I switch out to the maternity bralette which I far prefer for comfort. This looks nicer than the bralette under a shirt, though.
I think the title says it all. Comfortable bra, matches my other Lively bras that I have purchased (prior to pregnancy), and sizing is pretty spot on based on their measurement recommendations. I will say that for a maternity bra, I wish they had more hooks rather than the traditional 3 different sizings on the band since your band changes SO MUCH throughout your pregnancy. Other maternity bras I have have like 5-6 hooks bc depending on when you start using the maternity bra, your body change change THAT much. I'm 33 weeks now, and I am on the last hook, so I am keeping the bra since I don't think I'll get that much bigger (God, I hope I'm right), and I hope that my band size will decrease after baby is here. Comfy, cups feel great, and it doesn't look like a frumpy sports bra. When I first needed maternity bra, I just quickly got some from Target, and those were really hard to hide under some of my clothes bc the neckline came up so high and also looked more like a uniboob. These feel more bra-like, so i can wear it with a tank top or V-neck and not have my bra showing. Don't have issue with the boning (I kinda like it so that the bra doesn't bunch up), and any sizing concerns for me are with the band measurement as discussed above.
