Favorite Nursing Bra

I LOVED using this bra while I was nursing, and still wear it as an everyday bra. I love that it still looks cute, I felt like all the other nursing bras I found made me feel and look like a grandma! My only complaint would be that you can see the darting through t-shirts, but overall super cute and comfy!

Pretty

Overall, I thought the bra was pretty & I was super excited to wear, unfortunately I ordered a size 2 when I should have ordered a 3. Returning and getting the proper size. For reference, I'm a 36DD, however I tend to spill out of bras sometimes.

The only nursing bras I use

Omgsh, these are amazing. I was so down during pregnancy trying to fine nice, good quality pieces that still made me feel good about myself and like my pre-pregnancy self. These bras are sooooo comfortable during third tri. Now I’m nursing I’m living in these. I don’t quite understand the negative reviews. The material is nice and soft, and thin but in no way “cheese cloth” like someone else said. The material is soft against sore nipples and I’ve been wearing bamboo nipple pads with absolutely no problems. I have them in black, plum, smoke and almond. The almond is perfect shade for under white clothing. Highly recommend them, I’m just off to place another order and stock up!

They’re Okay

I was a 32 DDD pre-pregnancy and ordered size small in the black and almond. Aesthetically, if you aren’t wearing a top, this bra is very cute. Much more attractive than most nursing bras. The fabric is nice and silky-soft. However there are some downsides: 1) there is a dart from the nipple down to the band. This is to shape the cup, but if you are wearing a thinner shirt, the top of the seam looks like your nipple poking through. I expect some nipple show with an unlined bra, but it looks like I have two on each breast. 2) During pregnancy, the band would fold in half along the front and bunch up which minimized support and made things look kind of saggy. I also ran out of room near the end and had to purchase bra extenders. Post-partum the band fits, but now of course the cups are kind of small since my milk is in. This bra would really be improved by more hook options on the band to make the sizing more versatile. 3) Breast pads do not fit into the cups very well, they end up looking kind of lumpy. Preferable to leaking through the bra which is the alternative, but Lively should really consider including a removable pad as leaky breasts are pretty much a given if you’re in maternity wear. 4) Finally, the toasted almond color is really too light to be a nude bra on me and I’m pretty fair-skinned/Caucasian. More inclusive colors please! Overall I like how this bra is a prettier and less bulky version of a lot of nursing/maternity bras but it fall short on fit and function. I will be trying the wireless maternity bra to see if it gives a better fit and smoother look under tops.

Not a mom’s breast friend...

This bra is 100% the opposite of what nursing moms want or need. Zero padding so my hard, nursed on nips are showing through for all to see including my nursing toddler. Have you met a nursing toddler?! The moment they see the shape of your nips or see your bare rack they start negotiating for access to your boobs. I really thought I was getting a nursing version of a bra I previously own from Lively and I cannot believe I paid $30 for cheese cloth... like that’s suppose to help my milk laden boobs... If you’re cool with leaking through your bra or having your nips show through this is a great bra for you. But if you’re just trying to have a functional, low cut, nursing bra this is not it. Keep looking.

Bra Sizing Guide

Not sure about your bra size? Don’t sweat it! Measuring yourself at home is simple, but if you need a little extra help, you can meet with one of our fit experts face to face by scheduling a Virtual Styling Session or Fit Appointment at one of our stores!

Before we start you will need a few things:

  • A soft measuring tape
  • A mirror
  • Your best fitting, least padded bra

STEP 1

Stand in front of a mirror wearing your best fitting, least padded bra and use a soft measuring tape to measure your band size:

  • Wrap the measuring tape around your back just below your shoulder blades and just under your bust.
  • Make sure that the measuring tape is parallel to the floor. Pull the tape measure tight against your ribcage and take note of that measurement.
  • If your measurement is an odd number, add 1, if it's an even number, add 2
    • Ex: 35 inches rounds up to 36
    • Ex: 32 inches rounds up to 34

STEP 2

Next, measure your bust:

  • Slide your measuring tape up your back, across your shoulder blades and across the fullest part of your bust.
  • Make sure that the measuring tape is still parallel to the floor and hold the tape as loosely as possible and take note of that measurement.

STEP 3

Now we do some math!

  • Your band measurement is what you measured + 1 (odd measurements) or 2 (even measurements)
  • For every inch difference between your band size and your bust size you will increase your cup size.
    • Ex: 34 inch band and a 39 inch bust (5 inch difference)  will be a 34DD
    • Ex: 31 inch band measurement will round up to a 32 and a 35 inch bust (3 inch difference) will get you to size 32C.
